My family and I spent all day yesterday going through the rubble and trying to salvage what we could. Today I'm back at work in Winfield, which was untouched. It's so strange to be at school like any other day when my family's homes, my hometown, and second home (Tuscaloosa) are in ruins.
This is the house that I grew up in, and my dad before me.
We were able to salvage our family photos that were in the hall closet.
This is my room. See my pretty blue walls? I found the one thing I was worried about--my baby book. :)
Right across the pasture, my aunt and uncle didn't even have rubble to go through. Just an empty foundation.
My little cousin Daniel standing where his room used to be.
They lived beside a pond, so all of their stuff is either in the water or far far away.
My aunt is in her pajamas because that's what she was wearing when the tornado hit. They are now the only clothes she owns.
Daniel found a fish that had been blown out of the water, and rescued it. :)
Here's a huge tree that was in my Granny Red's yard (my great-grand-mother).
Here's what's left of Granny Red's house. She was in the bedroom when the tornado came through.
This is Granny Red's room, where she was in bed as her dresser fell on top of her. She hit her head, but is doing ok!
This little guy survived the tornado! He was covered in mud when they found him.
So many family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers have offered to help in any way that they can, from bringing food, helping search for belongings, to simply praying for us. We are so grateful to everyone!
I still can't believe it passed right over Gran & Pop's house. Trees were down on both sides of the house but somehow it hopped right over the house, where my family (minus Granny Red) were taking shelter. We are so blessed!
Please remember those who weren't as lucky. Phil Campbell is leveled, and there is absolute devastation in Tuscaloosa, my college home.
