our honeymoon: part 1

Now that I've finally written our wedding story, I guess it's a good time to share our honeymoon with you too! I am not exaggerating when I say that Mike and I often get teary-eyed thinking about our magical week in Jamaica and how much we miss it! We have a ton of photos but I'm going to try to squeeze them into two looong posts.

We got married in the evening so we actually spent our wedding night at a hotel in Alabama before flying off to Jamaica in the morning. It was our first time ever flying together which was an adventure all on its own. We drove to Atlanta and flew straight to Jamaica in about two hours. That's right, just two hours to paradise.

When the shuttle reached our resort, it was like we had suddenly entered heaven. Our bags were whisked away to our room, fruity drinks were promptly served to us as we got checked in, and the ocean was calling to us already through the open air lobby.

I take 100% of the credit for finding the most amazing and reasonable all-inclusive resort possible. I'm sure Jamaica is lovely no matter where you stay, but I did hours and hours of research before deciding that Couples Tower Isle in Ocho Rios was exactly what we wanted. The reviews were amazing, it wasn't too big, and NO KIDS ALLOWED. No creepy single guys or loud bachelorette parties either; this place is only for couples! Everything about it is created for romance. And I'm telling you right now if you've never gone to an all-inclusive resort, put it on your bucket list. For around $400 a night we got our room plus all the food and drinks we wanted (and we're talking fancy five-course meals), dozens of activities to enjoy from scuba diving to horseback riding, and all the little extras from 24-hour pools and hot tubs, a spa, gym, and oh yeah, a NUDE ISLAND. (Don't worry, we'll get to that in the next post!)

If you're looking for a honeymoon or vacation spot, GO HERE. That's all I'll say about that.

Our room was pretty basic, but the view was anything but. We were greeted with champagne and a cheese platter on our arrival, and every morning a huge Jamaican breakfast was brought to our door. We loved to eat and sip our coffee on our balcony looking out at the ocean.

The front of the resort was like our own private jungle. Mike loved to go and have long chats with the macaws.

Here we are goofing off with these fun lampshades in the lobby (with free drinks in hand of course!).

During the day we would either go to the beach or do one of the fun activities available, but every night we got all dressed up for a romantic dinner in one of the resort's many amazing restaurants. And of course there was plenty cheesy-photo-taking to be had!

On Monday nights they have a big beach party with delicious-smelling Jamaican jerk chicken and pork, seafood, and more desserts than you can dream of hiding in your sarong (not speaking from experience or anything).

One of the first activities we partook of was a day trip to the amazing Dunn's River Falls, where we climbed up the 600 foot waterfall, starting at beach level. It was nerve-wracking at times, but the guides and guys making a video of our group kept us entertained and moving upwards (I need to find out if I can rip the footage from the DVD and upload it here, because it's pretty hilarious).

We didn't take our camera of course so all we have from the climb is our DVD and this $8 tourist photo, which says it all:

This is one of my favorite photos of us ever, tacky label and all.

I think we knew by the end of the first night that we would be back.
{Check back for part 2!}

Where's your ideal honeymoon destination? I never thought I would want a "typical" beach honeymoon,
 but obviously I changed my mind!
